complete bay area coverage starts right now. this is ktvu channel 2 morning news. >> welcome to a brand-new day, it is a monday, october 1st. let's check in with steve paul sop for the weather. >> they have been stuck in the soup, temperatures cleared out and today looks similar, it looks like the fog will work its way back to near 100. if you are driving on 80, it is getting more crowded where you will see just a little bit more of a crowd as you come to the 6:00 hour, traffic is backed up in some of the cash lanes already and it is getting slower in all the lanes. let's go back to the desk. they are serving for all

the suspects in connection with the shooting. allie rasmus has more on where a man and woman were seriously hurt, allie? >> reporter: the couple who did not want to be on camera described a pretty chaotic scene. she said it was consecutive and shots one after the other. it was also in the frame of the building and directly underneath, that front and the back windows in this building were completely shattered. two people, a man and woman were seriously injured and it happened just before the evening. two people opened fire and we don't know if the couple was targeted if they happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. just where they were standing is important because even though there are bullet holes,

paramedics treated the median. they are looking into whether the couple tried to run or if they ended up in the middle of the street when it unfolded. it appears to be going not only with parked cars and police are asking anybody who may have seen or led up to the shooting, they should give a call. one thing to point out, there are surveillance cameras in front and investigators will look into what they have captured to help them with this investigation. allie rasmus, ktvu channel 2 morning news. berkeley police arrested an 84-year-old woman accused of hitting a man in front of the uc berkeley campus. they believe the elderly woman may have been under the

influence. it happened on hoist avenue and spruce street. the man is in reportedly critical condition. the man disappeared on pigeon point. their boat capsized yesterday morning. last night they searched but with helicopters and overnight they searched with boats. family members say one of the men left with with he and his friends for a fishing trip two of them were able to swim back to shore and call for help. it was a drive they will not soon forget. somebody fired shots into their car on highway 1 yesterday. jeanine has more on what police

need to solve this case. >> reporter: police say they found a dozen bullet casings on the highway and today they need the public's help, they are trying to figure out who opened fire on a car here. this car was ridelled with bullets. it was in the southbound lanes when the driver lost control and started shooting. the driver tore through bushes and slammed into a construction fence near the haley street exit -- hawley street exit. >> the charger was occupied by 3 adults, two adults and a female. two of them were taken to area hospitals with undetermined injuries. >> reporter: police at this point don't know if the

shooting was random or if it was a tar getted attack. they don't have a description of the other vehicle and trying trying to help them figure it out. it was about 3:30 in the afternoon and they need help so call them if you have information. they believe the accident started on highway 2 in san mateo and ended up near the hallly street exit in san carlos. reporting live, jeanine della vega, ktvu channel 2 morning news. a house fire where two people died appears to be suspicious. it happened saturday morning in potter valley. they have identified them as an elderly man and disdevelopmently disabled son.

. police just arrested a man who led them on a high-speed chase for an hour and crawled into a storm drain. the chase started in the san fernando valley and ended in van nuys. it happened after a row of seats became unbolted. the plane from miami to boston had to be diverted.

from a 1.3 earthquake. it happened late saturday night and was centered in irving texas. walls cracked and pictures knocked off the wall. >> the couch shook side to side and you could feel the tremor coming through. >> seismologists say earthquakes are not unusual to north texas but it is not home to a major fault line. it smells like rotten eggs and the stench is and coming from dead algae from a lagoon. air quality officials sent the lagoon's owner a notice of violation in hopes it will fix the smelly situation. saturday night was really a noisy night for thousands of east bay residents, it was a

awareness for the beginning of the month. >> thank you for joining us on ktvu channel 2 morning news, a brand-new day, monday, a brand- new month october 1st, i am dave clark. well the search is on for two missing men right now off the san mateo coast. those men disappeared when their boat capsized lorraine, what do you know this morning? >> reporter: well, dave one coast guard boat remains in the water and you can see it is dark in san mateo but daylight, we are expecting to see a helicopter searching in the area as he will with. we spoke with under with of the men, they said they went because he was not a good swimmer. they are looking 20 miles south

of half-moon bay. they were on a fishing trip with two other men who were able to swim to shore and call for help. the men left from san francisco early saturday morning for a day of fishing with friends and family members are staying whosetive. >> i hope the coast guard keeps on looking for my brother and not stopping just keep searching. >> two of the men were taken to the hospital with hypothermia. the coast guard said the fog made searching difficult ktvu channel 2 morning news. >> overnight a man and woman were seriously injured in a shooting, and allie rasmus has more on what witnesses heard and the search for suspects, allie? >> reporter: we spoke to several residents coming out of this building and they said

they heard consecutive shots fired. these residents did not want to go on camera for fear of their own safety. not only are the front windows shattered you can see where it dented but did not penetrate and the bullets went flying through this window and it shattered in front of that playground, the window shattered in front of the playground and two people, a man and woman went to the hospital with serious injuries. they are not sure what prompted it, they are not sure if they heard an argument breakout but it was just before last night, four people approached this apartment complex and opened fire. it appears the bullets went flying in all different

directions because 40 bullet casings, not just this but they had their windows shattered and they found bullet casings all the way into the median on to 7th street over there. anybody with information is asked to give police a call or anybody who saw or heard what happened, they are looking for four gunmen who seriously injured four people. allie rasmus, ktvu channel 2 morning news. in just a couple of hours, the trial of a woman who killed michelle le, she is charged with killing michelle le back in may. michelle le's body was found in a remote area four months later. they went to high school together in san diego. prosecutors claim she was

jealous of him and blamed her for a former boyfriend. one goh is charged with killing seven people. he is eligible for the death penalty if convinced after -- convicted after murdering several people at oikos university. the woman's body was found at fair oaks elementary school in pleasant hill. she had been missing from her adult care facility a few hours earlier. her exact cause of death is not determined but high temperatures may have ban factor. authorities are asking people to avoid using gas powered equipment and you are asked to take public transportation or carpool. new this morning there is a

this whole race will be turned upside down some thursday morning. one week from today, president barack obama comes back here to the bay area hosting campaign money. he will be hosting a dinner in san francisco. that dinner will be followed by a concert. the concert tickets start at $100 and go up to $7,500 for premium seats and also a chance to take a picture with the president. musical guests have not been announced. and governor jerry brown has signed several bills into law and we will have more on why hundreds of prison inmates may soon go free. how is the commute, sal? you know, sal?

we have more traffic in lafayette and it is a little bit slow between walnut creek and concord down to center southbound -- denver. it is also slow from pittsburgh to antioch. metering lights were turned on as is normal and what a nice picture, you can see the sun over the hills, not one cloud and steve will talk about what that means for our bay area weather but you probably know if you have been living here for a while. westbound 480, there is a crash which is partially blocking one of those lanes and traffic coming in from the tracy area, guess go to steve. there is only patchy fog.

. sunny, clear, warm to hot near 100 degrees. hello, here is a quick look at some of the top stories right now at 643, coast guard is still looking for two fishermen missing off the san mateo coast. two other fishermen who were on board were able to get back to shore safely. police are investigating a double shooting that left a man and woman injured and it happened around midnight at 7th and filbert street. four people started shooting and so far no arrests have been made. and a lottery winner will split a $28 million lottery jackpot in mill teat. that is where one -- milpitas.

that is where one of the winning tickets was sold and another winning ticket was sold in lake county. a man and woman are recovering from a shooting which spanned several different cities. live in beaumont where it all started, jeanine? >> reporter: that's right, pam, investigators say the majority of the shooting happened near the exit in the southbound lanes of highway 101 and one car was hit by gunfire and today investigators want to talk to drivers who may have seen it. belmont police say this may have started at highway 22 in san mateo in the southbound lanes and another vehicle pulled up to the charger opened fire and caused that driver to swerve across the lanes and crash into the construction
